Product Description

The Air Entrainment Meter for Concrete is an equipment used in construction and civil engineering to measure the air content in fresh concrete samples. The 7-litre capacity refers to the volume of the container used to hold the concrete sample during testing. The evaluation of air content in concrete is an important parameter to assess because it affects the durability, workability, and strength of concrete. The presence of air voids in concrete can have significant effects on how well it performs in construction projects, particularly in applications like masonry construction. These voids can weaken the structure and reduce its durability. Comes with aluminium cast vessel & designed for easy disassembly in order to replace worn or damaged parts in the field. Consists of two types operation, manually & electrical operated.

This European standard provides guidelines for assessing the air content in freshly mixed concrete through pressure methods. The procedure involves applying pressure to a known volume of concrete and measuring the subsequent change in volume to determine the air content.

  • ASTM C231

ASTM C231, developed by ASTM International, is a widely used test method in construction. It helps determine the air content in freshly mixed concrete, crucial for assessing its workability and durability. This standard, applicable to concrete with aggregates of 50 mm (2 inches) or less, offers a standardized approach for both field and laboratory testing, ensuring that the air content meets specified requirements.

  • DIN 1048

DIN 1048 refers to a series of standards within the German Institute for Standardization (Deutsches Institut für Normung, DIN) related to concrete. DIN 1048 encompasses various parts, each focusing on specific aspects of concrete testing, properties, or methods. Without a specific part number, it's challenging to provide detailed information on the exact content of DIN 1048.

  • AASHTO T152

Similar to ASTM C231, the standard AASHTO T152, crafted by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, prescribes procedures for the determination of air content in freshly mixed concrete through the pressure method. Frequently referenced in the domain of highway and transportation projects in the United States, this standard guarantees a standarsized and reliable approach to air content assessment.

Test Procedure

  1. Concrete Sample Preparation: Prepare fresh concrete sampling according to the desired mix design and specifications.
  2. Equipment Setup: Make sure to set up the Air Entrainment Meter according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Fill & Seal Container: Place the 7-litre capacity container of the Air Entrainment Meter on a stable surface. Carefully fill the container with the prepared concrete sample, ensuring it is level and free of air pockets. Securely seal it to prevent any air from escaping during testing. This may involve placing a lid or cover over the container and ensuring it is tightly secured in place.
  4. Apply Pressure Changes: Use the Air Entrainment Meter to subject the concrete sample to a series of pressure changes. This typically involves applying a vacuum to the sample and then releasing the vacuum in a controlled manner. The pressure changes help to release any entrapped air bubbles from the concrete. 
  5. Measure Air Content: The air released from the concrete sample will, it rises to the top of the container. Utilise the equipment's measuring gauge or scale to quantify the volume of air released. This measurement is typically expressed as a percentage of the total volume of the concrete sample.
  6. Record Results: Make sure to document the measured air content, noting the date and time of testing, details about the concrete mix used, and any specific conditions during testing. This record helps maintain a thorough history of the test and provides valuable information for analysis and comparison
  7. Repeat if Necessary: Repeat the procedure with additional concrete samples to ensure consistency and accurate findings. Only repeat if required by specific testing standards. 
  8. Interpret Results: Measured air content should be analyse in order to verify whether its in acceptable range for specific projects or specifications. Adjustment is necessary if measured air content doesn't align with desired target. 
  9. Report Findings: A report summarising the test procedure, results and any relevant observations. This report may be used for making sure everything meets quality standards.
