Pull-Off Adhesion Tester

The Pull-Off Adhesion Tester is used to evaluate the adhesion strength or bond strength between a coating or material and its substrate or underlying surface. It can determine the bonding strength of concrete overlay adhesion and is also suitable for measuring the strength of applied coatings such as the adhesive strength of plastic, mortars, plasters, tiles, bituminous coats, paints, adhesives, and other coatings materials applied to surfaces like metal, or composites.

This Pull-Off Adhesion Tester can test at any measuring point on the component without requiring specimen preparation, although a suitable depth of coring diameter, the same as the test disc, is prepared before pulling off the surface bonding. The tester comes complete with a carry case and additional accessories that need to be ordered separately.

This Pull-Off Adhesion Tester has a maximum load capacity of 6 x 0.001 kN sensitivity, ensuring precise measurements of adhesion strength. With an accuracy and repeatability of ≤1.0% F.S., it delivers reliable results consistently. Its piston travel of 10 mm allows for effective testing, while the 55 mm LED screen provides a clear display of data. The tester's bracket span distance of 120 mm accommodates various sample sizes. With a data memory capacity of 500 test results, it offers convenient storage and retrieval of information. Powered by a rechargeable 200 V, 1-phase source, it combines portability with versatility. Weighing just 2 kg and measuring 150 x 150 x 150 mm, it is compact and easy to handle. Complete with a carry case measuring 400 x 330 x 220 mm, it ensures convenient transport and storage, making it an indispensable tool for construction and materials testing applications.

Standard

  1. EN 1542: This standard specifies a method for determining the pull-off strength of hardened rendering and plastering mortars on substrates such as concrete, masonry, and rendering. It outlines procedures for testing the adhesion of these materials to their substrate, providing guidelines for ensuring the quality and reliability of rendering and plastering applications in construction.

  2. EN 1348: This standard addresses the determination of the adhesion/cohesion strength of hydraulically bound systems, such as mortars and concrete, to existing substrates. It specifies methods for evaluating the adhesion/cohesion strength of these materials, including the preparation of test specimens and testing procedures. Compliance with this standard helps ensure the durability and performance of hydraulically bound systems in construction projects.

  3. EN 1015-12: This standard specifies a method for determining the adhesion strength of hardened render or plaster to a substrate. It provides guidelines for preparing test specimens, conducting tests, and calculating adhesion strength. Adhering to this standard helps ensure the quality and durability of render and plaster systems in construction applications.

Test Procedure

  1. Surface Preparation: Ensure that the surface to be tested is clean, dry, and free from any contaminants or loose particles. If necessary, prepare the surface according to relevant standards or specifications.

  2. Attachment of Test Disc: Attach a test disc or dolly to the surface using an appropriate adhesive. The test disc should have a diameter matching the specified coring diameter and should be firmly bonded to the surface.

  3. Coring Diameter Preparation: If required, prepare a suitable coring diameter around the test disc, ensuring it matches the diameter of the test disc.

  4. Setting Up the Tester: Set up the Pull-Off Adhesion Tester according to the manufacturer's instructions. This may involve calibrating the device, ensuring proper alignment, and adjusting any necessary parameters.

  5. Performing the Test: Apply a tensile force gradually using the Pull-Off Adhesion Tester until the test disc detaches from the surface. Monitor the force applied and observe any signs of failure or detachment.

  6. Recording Data: Record the maximum force applied before detachment, as well as any other relevant data such as the location of the test, ambient conditions, and surface preparation details.

  7. Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze the test results to determine the adhesion strength of the coating or material to the substrate. Compare the results against specified requirements or standards to assess compliance.

  8. Reporting: Prepare a test report documenting the test procedure, results, and any relevant observations or conclusions. Include all necessary information to ensure traceability and accountability.

  9. Maintenance and Calibration: After completing the test, clean and maintain the Pull-Off Adhesion Tester according to manufacturer recommendations. Ensure that the device is calibrated regularly to maintain accuracy and reliability.
