Force calibration alone is not enough to guarantee the accuracy of the strength result, as it does not take into account the frame rigidity. Often when doubts arise about the reliability of compressive strength test, the frame stability seldom been discussed whereas there is already a standard in place of such requirement.

Normal frame that does not comply to BS EN 12390-4 provides unbalanced & non-uniform loading during test creates micro or mili-movements which are not visible to human eye. This will cause fake result which can be 5% to 35% lower than normal & inconsistent due to premature failure, thus causing impaired judgement of raw materials to be used which defeats the purpose of Quality Control. This in turn affects costing & safety of construction.

Thus other than force calibration, the requirement for frame stability test, or best known as force transfer test as mentioned in BS EN 12390-4 often been overlooked due to lack of relations by relevant authority. The importance of such requirement is more obvious especially in high grade concrete, where loss of strength during test due to frame stability issue is too significant to ignore and might create a fake impression of insufficient cement quantity in the concrete mixture. But same batch of concrete tested with high stability frame comply to BS EN 12390-4 provides satisfactory results.
